چکیده

Recently developed neuromorphic vision sensors have become promising candidates for agile and autonomous robotic applications primarily due to, in particular, their high temporal resolution and low latency. Each pixel of this sensor independently fires an asynchronous stream of “retinal events" once a change in the light field is detected. Existing computer vision algorithms can only process periodic frames and so a new class of algorithms needs to be developed that can efficiently process these events for control tasks. In this paper, we investigate the problem of regulating a continuous-time linear time invariant (LTI) system to a desired point using measurements from a neuromorphic sensor. We present an H∞ controller that regulates the LTI system to a desired set-point and provide the set of neuromorphic sensor based cameras for the given system that fulfill the regulation task. The effectiveness of our approach is illustrated on an unstable system.

Neuromorphic vision sensors for mobile robots

Real-time vision-based vehicle navigation tasks are typically computationally intensive and significantly complex in terms of resources used. Moreover, mobile applications of navigation systems place severe constraints on their size and power consumption. These constraints can be satisfied by using parallel image processing architectures and parallel control algorithms implemented with analog V...

Event-Based 3D Motion Flow Estimation Using 4D Spatio Temporal Subspaces Properties

State of the art scene flow estimation techniques are based on projections of the 3D motion on image using luminance-sampled at the frame rate of the cameras-as the principal source of information. We introduce in this paper a pure time based approach to estimate the flow from 3D point clouds primarily output by neuromorphic event-based stereo camera rigs, or by any existing 3D depth sensor eve...

Neuromorphic vision sensors and preprocessors in system applications

A partial review of neuromorphic vision sensors that are suitable for use in autonomous systems is presented. Interfaces are being developed to multiplex the high-dimensional output signals of arrays of such sensors and to communicate them in standard formats to off-chip devices for higher-level processing, actuation, storage and display. Alternatively, on-chip processing stages may be implemen...

Neuromorphic Vision Chips: intelligent sensors for industrial applications

In the past years researchers at the California Institute of Technology (and in few other research institutions worldwide) have been concentrating their efforts on the design and implementation of analog VLSI neuromorphic systems. Today this emerging technology seems to be mature enough for use in industrial applications. In this paper we give an overview of some of the neuromorphic vision circ...

Neuromorphic selective attention systems

Selective attention mechanisms allow sensory systems with limited processing capacity to function in real time independent of the size of the stimulus input space. They can be particularly useful in vision systems, where the amount of information provided by the sensors typically exceeds the system’s processing capacity. We present circuits for implementing models of selective attention mechani...
